GRE FAQ › Guessing, Probability & Scoring Mechanics

Is the GRE curved?

Not exactly. ETS uses a process called equating that adjusts raw scores based on the difficulty of each specific test form. This means the same scaled score represents the same ability level regardless of when you take the test. You're not competing against other test-takers on your particular date. The system is designed for fairness across all administrations.
