GRE FAQ › Guessing, Probability & Scoring Mechanics

How much is each GRE question worth? / How many points per question?

Within each section, every question counts the same regardless of difficulty. ETS doesn't publish their raw-to-scaled score conversion, so there's no public lookup table showing exactly how many points each wrong answer costs. What we do know: the GRE is section-level adaptive, meaning your performance on the first section determines the difficulty of the second section. A harder second section gives you access to higher scores. The practical takeaway: every question matters, careless errors add up, and you should never assume a question "doesn't count" because it looks easy.
