Does the GRE deduct for wrong answers? (Is there a penalty for guessing?)

No. There's no penalty for guessing on the GRE. A wrong answer and a blank answer count exactly the same, so always fill in an answer for every question, even if it's a pure guess. At worst it counts the same as a blank; at best you get the point.
