GRE FAQ › Writing (AWA)

What is a good GRE Analytical Writing score?

A 4.0 or above is solid for most programs. A 4.5 or 5.0 is strong. Very few programs put major weight on the AWA, so unless you're applying to a writing-intensive program, anything above 4.0 is unlikely to hurt you. A score below 3.0 could raise concerns, so put in enough practice to avoid that range.
