How do I get 160 on GRE verbal?

Getting a 160 on verbal involves either making it into the moderate second section with a strong first section performance (normally not more than 4 or 5 errors, nearly enough to have made it into the harder section) and then doing very well in that moderate second section, or making it into the harder second section (generally 1, 2, or maybe 3 errors in the first section) and doing a little less well in the second but still well. 160 is a challenging score to achieve for most people.

A lot of getting there involves limiting or fully eliminating careless errors, reducing the number of vocab questions you have to guess on for lack of vocabulary and learning to get nearly all the points you can from those, and then being able to pick your battles in reading comprehension. You need to recognize how to be careful enough to get a significant number of questions right, even if it means you don't have the time you'd like for some other questions. The key is making those other ones the questions that would have been most challenging for you to get right anyway.
