GRE FAQ › Scores & Percentiles
What GRE percentiles mean / how do they work?
Your percentile tells you what percentage of test-takers you scored higher than. A 70th percentile means you outperformed 70% of everyone who took the test. Percentiles are calculated separately for verbal, quant, and writing, and they're useful for comparing yourself to the overall pool. What matters most, though, is how your scores stack up at your target programs.
