GRE FAQ › Test Day & Retakes
Is the GRE hard?
Asking whether the GRE is hard is a bit like asking whether it's hard to measure your vertical leap. The GRE measures something, and what's challenging for most people is pushing to improve how they perform on that metric — particularly if they're applying to competitive programs with high score expectations, and particularly if they're starting far from those standards.
But the GRE isn't anything to be scared or intimidated by. It's a test designed to help admissions departments make decisions, and it's a test you can improve on if you work at it. The first improvements you make may not even be that difficult. But for many people, getting to a score they're happy with is hard — just like increasing your vertical leap significantly is hard.
The good news: unlike your vertical leap, your GRE score responds very well to smart, focused practice. And we can help you figure out the most efficient path to your target.
