Why is GRE quant so hard?

GRE quant isn't testing advanced math. It's testing your ability to apply basic math concepts under time pressure, often in tricky ways. The difficulty comes from the question design, not the math content. You might know the underlying concept perfectly but still get tripped up by how the question is worded or by missing a subtle constraint.
