GRE FAQ › GRE vs GMAT
Is GRE verbal harder than GMAT verbal?
They test different things, so "harder" depends on your strengths. GRE verbal is more vocabulary-heavy, with Text Completion and Sentence Equivalence questions that reward word knowledge. GMAT verbal focuses on critical reasoning and reading comprehension; it no longer tests grammar. If you have a strong vocabulary or are willing to build one, GRE verbal may feel more manageable. GRE Reading Comprehension questions are similar to GMAT verbal questions, but there are fewer of them.
